a Healthy Snack, in more ways than one

Sunflower-With-BeeI was reading Woman’s World (week of October 27th issue) last week… and during my read of their “6 ways to Enjoy Great Health”, they talked about a great cunchy snack that is good to help us feel more energized. What might this snack be you ask? Sunflower Seeds.

Scientists discovered that vitamin E, which is the most prominant vitamin in sunflower seeds – was the only one that boosted energy, endurance and strength!

What alerted me to this tid bit of information on the subject was the following: “Folks deficient in this powerful antioxidant — which helps ward off tissue damage and boost the production of red blood cells – faced a 150% great risk of physical decline than those with high levels.”

I am anemic. This means that I lack of a certain chemical molecule (hemoglobin) in my body, that helps carry oxygen to my red blood cells and my organs. Although there are different variations of anemia, the main focus for me in reading this, was that there isn’t enough oxygen brought into my red blood cells and iron helps this process. But when I read about the purpose of vitamin E, which helps boost the production of red blood cells, I thought it could possibly be just another tool to help the iron do it’s job of help the red blood cells take in more oxygen.

Having read this, on our outing to go grocery shopping on Friday, we went to Bulk Barn. I needed to buy more Blackstrap Molasses/BSM (for the iron content), and as I went by the big containers of Sunflower Seeds, I remembered what I had read… I read the nutritional facts on the container (which are also on all containers in the store), and read that out of the 3 sunflower choices I had, that not only did all of them have high content, but had one had much more than the other 2… so I chose that!

Today was my first day of snacking on them. I just did approx. an hour ago actually. I really do enjoy them, and I look forward to reaping of it’s health benefits!!

I know that lots of people enjoy sunflower seeds as a nice snack. Let me know how it works out for you.
    Where they salty?
I know that I don’t get enough of the vitamins I need through food alone. So anything that will boost my system is a good thing.
    Love you babe!
